Surge Arrestors are protective devices that protect Distribution networks from over voltage occurrences. These MOV (Metal oxide varistar) based devices are designed to protect electrical equipment from the damaging effects of spikes and transients by changing their impedance to earth and keeping the protected equipment to safe voltage differentials.

Surge arrestors protect against lightning, utility switching, isolation arching, electrical motor cycling, or any other sudden change in electrical power flow on incoming AC power lines. Lightning is responsible for more than 65% of over-voltage occurrences on overhead lines, and strikes a line either by direct strikes or distant strikes also known as induced voltages (close strikes to a line). Distribution Class Arrestors operate at voltages ranging from 3kv-33kv. The standard KA rating is 10KA and Energy absorption 2,5Kj/ Kv for this Distribution Class Arrestor range.
